From Floating Heritage to Five-Star Short-Stay — and a World That Takes Notice

Somewhere in Hall 11 of the RAI, among the Porsches and Patek Philippes, stood a booth that looked different from the rest. There was no glossy showroom or spectacular lighting installation. Instead, there were renderings of a 40-metre traditional Dutch barge in the making, the atmosphere of a compelling story, and two owners who knew exactly what they had created.

The Christa Maria, a former motor cargo vessel built in 1961, has been completely reborn as a piece of floating heritage offering five-star short-stay accommodation. The ship made its public debut at Masters Expo 2025, at booths 1200 and 1213 in Hall 11. The paint on the ship was still fresh. The mahogany wheelhouse had only just been completed. But the vision was already crystal clear: sailing to Maastricht for TEFAF, to Paris for Roland Garros, or simply choosing a berth anywhere in the ever-changing waterways of the Netherlands.

It was no coincidence that the debut took place here. Christa Wouda Pronk was a member for many years of the Royal Industrial Groote Club (IGC) in Amsterdam, one of the oldest business associations in the Netherlands. Within the IGC, she briefly served as Chair of the Nautical Round Table—a community of people for whom the water is not merely a backdrop, but a way of life. Members of VNO-NCW and the Nyenrode Community also visited the stand.

They immediately recognised it—not just the ship itself, but the ambition behind it.

In the days following the exhibition, members of the Nautical Round Table visited the vessel in person. They stepped aboard, explored the spaces still taking shape, and breathed in the scent of the newly finished mahogany wheelhouse. Their enthusiasm was genuine, coming from people who understand what it takes to create something exceptional on the water—and who recognise it when they see it.

It was exactly the validation Robert and Christa needed. Not from a design committee, but from entrepreneurs who truly belong on the water.

The Christa Maria is about to set out into the world. And the world has already made it clear that it is ready to welcome her.
